I wrote earlier about the visit of Mohammed al-Khatami, Iran's former president, to Harvard University, to speak on the subject of "The Ethics of Tolerance in an Age of Violence." Apparently the good folks at Harvard were surprised to discover that Khatami's "tolerance" doesn't extend to homosexuals:
Khatami, widely considered a reformer in Iran, was often met
with applause from the Kennedy School audience…
In response to another question, Khatami also justified his country’s
use of capital punishment for acts of homosexuality, but said that
the conditions for execution are so strict that they are “virtually
impossible to meet.”
“Homosexuality is a crime in Islam and crimes are punishable,”
Khatami said. “And the fact that a crime could be punished by
execution is debatable.”
The audience responded with silence to his remark.
I'd imagine so. These "virtually impossible to meet" conditions didn't prevent two young teenagers from being hanged for homosexuality - after being imprisoned for 14 months and lashed 228 times - only about a year ago. Unfortunately, the national media noted neither Khatami's remark nor the execution of the teenagers. (HT: HotAir) Why IS it the media cooperates so willingly with our enemies, who would kill thousands or millions of innocent Americans, while ignoring the incredibly severe consequences they themselves would face if those enemies were to win this war?
